Introduction
SMEI Projects is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Manager to join our finance team. Reporting to the Divisional Financial Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the business, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and supporting operational decision-making.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a dynamic project-based environment and is comfortable managing multiple priorities across a growing organisation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Cash flow management and forecasting.
- Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Management of month-end and year-end close processes.
- VAT, PAYE and income tax compliance.
- Liaising with external auditors and tax consultants.
- Preparation of statutory returns and financial reporting.
- Oversight of fixed asset and inventory control.
- Oversight of debtors, creditors and cashbook functions.
- Management, mentoring and development of finance staff.
- Review of project profitability and cost reporting.
- Assist with continuous improvement of financial systems and internal controls.
- Support the Divisional Financial Director with strategic financial initiatives and ad hoc projects.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field - or
- Professional qualification (CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)
- Minimum 5–8 years' financial management experience.
- Experience within engineering, construction, mining or project-based industries will be highly advantageous.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- ERP experience (Sage 300 experience advantageous).
- Proven people management experience.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.
