Purpose of the Job
The Senior Mining Engineer: Corporate Development is responsible for providing integrated technical and commercial support to the Implats Group, with a specific focus on Corporate Development. The position supports capital project evaluation, business development initiatives, and technical services to ensure alignment with Group strategy, value creation objectives, and governance standards. The successful candidate will bridge operational mining expertise with financial and strategic decision-making, enabling robust evaluation of growth opportunities, optimisation of existing assets, and informed capital allocation decisions
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- NQF level 7 qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline
- Professional registration (ECSA or equivalent) will be advantageous.
- Post-graduate qualifications (e.g., MBA) will be advantageous.
- Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in mining operations, technical services, or project evaluation.
- Exposure to corporate development, feasibility studies, or project evaluation.
- Deep working knowledge of reporting standards such as SAMREC.
- Advanced knowledge of mine planning and optimisation tools.
- Strong financial modelling, valuation, and project economics understanding.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- High level of emotional maturity, communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct technical due diligence and support evaluation of mergers, acquisitions, and growth opportunities.
- Provide technical input into capital projects, feasibility studies, and investment decisions.
- Support financial modelling, valuation, and project economics analysis in collaboration with finance teams.
- Evaluate and optimise mining operations, including life-of-mine planning and technical performance.
- Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership and Board.
- Ensure compliance with governance frameworks, reporting standards, and industry requirements.
- Identify, assess, and manage technical and project-related risks.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support Group-wide technical standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across operations, corporate functions, and advisory partners.
- Provide ad-hoc technical, strategic, and analytical support as required.
