Main Objectives
- Provide effective and efficient laboratory, training, administration and reporting for the BioBRU research group and for the Chair in accordance with the University’s policies and procedures.
- Procure, place orders, and monitor the receipt of laboratory goods; oversee the PMP programme for laboratory equipment; and ensure researchers adhere to good laboratory practices and biosafety guidelines.
- Provide efficient and effective support to a large research group, including multiple researchers, postdocs and postgraduate students. Support training in core laboratory techniques and contribute to data collection to support outputs.
The Requirements
- A master’s degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology or a related subject, plus approximately one year’s experience, is preferred; an Honours degree for an exceptional candidate in one of these subjects will be acceptable if accompanied by approximately 2 years’ relevant experience.
- For candidates at either level, they should demonstrate the following experience: -
- Previous experience in independent laboratory-based research as a postgraduate researcher in a molecular, microbiology or cell biology laboratory.
- Previous experience working in or managing a laboratory environment, including supporting the laboratory systems, leadership of a research laboratory environment and maintaining lab equipment.
- Experience in laboratory-based molecular research, including training postgraduate students and contributing to a research programme.
- Working knowledge of financial management and accounting principles.
- Previous experience working within a computerised environment and having worked with Excel at an advanced level.
- Previous experience in working with word-processing, e-mail and the internet.
- Previous experience in setting up and maintaining filing and administrative systems.
