About the role
Sea Harvest is one of South Africa's leading fishing and food companies, with a proud heritage and a reputation for quality that reaches tables around the world. Our Procurement Department at South Arm, V&A Waterfront, is looking for a sharp, commercially minded Procurement Officer to buy the goods and services that keep our maintenance department running.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Award orders for maintenance work in conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendents.
Interpret and compare technical quotes, and negotiate pricing based on quotes and work done.
Impose penalties in line with agreed terms where required.
Analyse spend and improve the sourcing process to maximise quality of work and minimise cost.
Select and source from suppliers in line with Preferential Procurement targets.
Follow up on outstanding orders and resolve account queries.
Stay fully conversant with current market prices of all items required.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
BCom degree or equivalent; a technical qualification is an advantage.
At least 5 years' experience in a senior buyer capacity within a related industry.
Exposure to import terms and conditions.
Strong negotiation and conflict-management skills.
Proven supplier relationship management experience.
Superior customer service and strong administrative skills.
Excellent analytical, planning and decision-making ability, with the skill to read, interpret and compile reports.
Computer literacy across MS Office, with high proficiency in MS Excel.
The ability to engage all levels of management and suppliers, working both independently and as part of a team.
