Principal Accountabilities:
Pastoral Care of the Boarders
To ensure that there is adequate supervision of the boarding houses.
To ensure that all staff act in accordance with and apply the school rules.
To ensure that any complaints are dealt with promptly and reported appropriately.
To ensure the successful induction of all new Boarders joining the house.
To provide a sympathetic presence in the boarding house and to be sensitive to those who are having difficulties adapting to boarding life or school.
To be responsible for the welfare and promote the happiness of Borders.
To oversee everyday discipline of the girls and boys in the boarding houses in accordance with the Code of Conduct to ensure that all boarders are treated fairly and consistently.
To initiate and participate in activities for the Boarders throughout the week and to facilitate the involvement of all Boarders and staff in Boarding and school activities.
Operational Expertise & Resource Management
Assuming responsibility for coordinating and managing the activity calendar for each year.
Ensuring there is a stimulating and varied programme of Boarding, extra-curricular and weekend activities.
Monitoring the health of the students in the Boarding House in conjunction with the school nurse/matron.
Maintaining complete records of all activities involving Boarding House students, Health and Social Wellbeing issues and parent involvement.
Administering and be responsible for all aspects of Student Boarding House life.
Establish and maintain safety precautions within the Student Boarding House especially in relation to excursions off campus.
Maintaining a database of student contact information and student academic and behavioural records as they relate to both the Student Boarding House and the school.
Taking an active role in the Student Boarding House improvement initiatives.
Raising the profile of the Student Boarding House through organising events and initiatives.
Knowing both Student Boarding House and school policies and can answer everyday queries of parents.
Helping in other areas of the school as directed.
Administration
To be aware and acknowledgeable of all Boarding Policies and standards and always put them into practice.
To liaise with House parents and their assistants regarding Boarders' trips and activities
To ensure that all trips have been planned in accordance with Health and Safety and pupil, staff ratios.
To organise transport and all meals as required during the week, weekend and holidays.
To ensure all handbook and website details are up to date.
To Collect and Collate information for the Boarders' newsletter each month and to pass on to named individuals for publication.
Qualification
Bachelor of Education. Administration degree also beneficial.
Experience
Teaching Qualification
Three or more years' experience as Boarding Manager
Proficient in English and Afrikaans languages.
